Animals Who Shape Our Lives
A Curated Regional Portrait Project honouring the bond between people and their animals.
Fur Heart will culminate in a Coffee Table Book and a Gallery Night. Celebrating the animals who shape our lives and the stories behind them.

WHY THIS MATTERS
Our beloved companions are woven through the chapters of our lives.
They are there in the seasons no one else sees. The ordinary days, the hard days, the turning points.
They carry us through change, through loss, through joy.
And the time we have with them is never quite long enough.
To pause and cherish that bond while they are still beside us matters.
THE EXPERIENCE
Participants are invited into a guided Portrait Session. Focussed on the bond you share with your companion. Some portraits centre on the animals alone. Others include you together. The approach is grounded and gently directed. Creating a balance of composed portraits and natural connected moments.
Participation & Contribution
$158 To commence your Fur Heart story..
(Portrait session's are typically $390)
Each Session contributes to something larger than the portrait itself.
$10 from every session supports local animal welfare initiatives within the Limestone Coast Region.
WHAT DOES THE $158 INCLUDE?
THE FUR HEART PROJECT
15-MINUTE PLANNING CALL: A relaxed pre session conversation to understand your connection and plan the details, including styling and location.
• YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION: One hour session studio or location within Mount Gambier.
• GUIDANCE: An easy, guided approach during your session, that keeps the focus on connection, comfort and being present together.
• PORTRAIT OF YOUR CHOICE: One Fine Art Cotton Print
(mounted ready to frame 20x25cm) plus matching digital file, with the option to purchase more.
• IMAGE REVEAL & ORDERING SESSION - A studio image reveal where we'll go through your images together, choose your gifted photograph and explore any additional pieces you may wish to take home.
Entry into the gallery night and selected imagery in our book publication.

WHERE THIS BEGAN
Photography for me began with animals.
I started shooting film at a young age. My mum worked at Hanimex, so my rolls were always being developed, most of them filled with photographs of our dogs and the stray cats that found their way into our yard. An Australian Terrier named Caddy. Amy, our Bull Terrier. Elsie and Cisco, our little Chihuahuas who became my first lessons in love and grief.
Over the years I have loved and said goodbye to many animals, each one leaving a mark I still carry.
Fur Heart was born from that lifetime of loving animals and learning, often through loss, just how deeply they become part of us. They are never just pets. They are chapters of our lives.
This project is a return to that beginning, a way of honouring the bond we share and recognising how profoundly they influence who we are.
The Fur Heart coffee table book will be printed by order and released alongside a gallery night bringing the project together in one shared space.
The evening will celebrate the animals who shape our lives and the stories behind them.
Books will be available as an additional purchase, with pricing shared closer to release. From every book sold, $10 will be directed to a local Limestone Coast animal charity.
IMAGE USE & PROJECT PARTICIPATION
Fur Heart is a curated portrait series. Image selection
for the gallery night and the book publication is at the discretion of the photographer Tanya Ewen.
By taking part in Fur Heart, participants acknowledge that selected images from their session may be:
Displayed at the Fur Heart Gallery Night.
Featured in the Fur Heart coffee table book
Shared on the Fur Heart Website, related
promotional material and with affiliated partners involved in the Fur Heart Project.
This allows the work to be presented as a cohesive series and shared as part of the wider Fur Heart story.
